AU is an audio file format originally created to be used on Sun Microsystems and Unix-based machines. Currently, AU has become the default audio format used on Unix platforms.
AU audio files contain multiple components, including a header with 24 bytes, an annotation block and the actual audio data.
In order to be able to play their AU files, users will have to find and use a dedicated application that comes with support for this particular audio format.
