Quickly send audio files to the SpeechMatics service in order to have the text transcribed, either manually or by setting certain folders to be monitored #Transcribe audio #Audio to text #Speech to text #Transcribe #Audio #Text
Recording meetings for historical purposes can prove very useful, although finding specific moments at a later time is rather time-consuming. autoTranscribe is a minimalist macOS app that helps you transcribe the conversation and make the content searchable.
Right off the bat, in the autoTranscribe Welcome panel you are directed to set your SpeechMatics credentials. Note that the application is only using the service and that you need to register for a SpeechMatics account on the service provider’s website.
The SpeechMatics registration process is quite straightforward, and any new account gets 60 minutes of transcription time (360 available credits.) As a result, if you don’t have an account, you can try the service’s capabilities, and see how well it works with the autoTranscribe app.
In order to connect the service with the autoTranscribe app, you need to navigate to the SpeechMatics account panel in your web browser and get both the user ID and the app token.
autoTranscribe comes with a status bar menu where you get to quickly select the audio file you want to be transcribed and monitor the status of your SpeechMatics account (how many transcription minutes and credits you have left, and if there are any transcription jobs currently active.)
Via the autoTranscribe Preferences window you get to set the directories that are to be monitored for new recordings: the app detects all the newly added files and allows you to both select the output language and start the transcription process from the status bar menu.
During our test, we have noticed that autoTranscribe is able to put the text transcription files on your drive (next to the original audio recording), only if you work with the autodetection function.
Unfortunately, the text files were not transferred to the computer automatically when manually adding audio files to be transcribed. Of course, you do get to download the transcription on your own, as a TXT or JSON file, via the SpeechMatics website.
Bottom line, autoTranscribe offers you the possibility to work with the SpeechMatics service without going through a web browser. The app allows you to set folders to be monitored for new content, and can automatically put the text transcription files on your Mac.
