Locations For Mac

Locations is an interesting and helpful utility designed to change your Mac’s settings according to the network you are connected to.

Thanks to Locations, your Mac can change its behavior, close or open certain applications, mount or connect to home servers, change your Adium status along with the desktop wallpaper, network location, screensaver, display brightness and timezone, enable or disable the Bluetooth or the Airport, open webpages, play your favorite iTunes playlist, run Terminal commands, Applescript or an Automator Workflow, display Growl notifications or start the Time Machine backup.

What is more, you can use Locations to change the default mail application, hide or show an application, enable or disable the firewall and change your default web browser. In other words, you can make your computer do almost anything you want according to the network to which you are connected.

To access Locations you have to open the System Preferences window and launch the Location pref pane. From here, you can easily make multiple custom profiles that can be triggered by the current network or a network of your choice. The Actions tab helps you view all the changes your Mac will perform when connected to a certain network. The list can be easily changed by simply adding or removing actions.

By accessing the Actions slide sheet, you can view all available actions grouped in different categories as follows: Mail, System, Applications, Scripts and All Actions. Each action can be personalized and customized to fit your requirements and needs. The Triggers tab helps you add and remove networks to your list and decide which location is activated when connected to the specified network.

Another great feature is the status bar menu that enables you to change the current location and open the configuration window with just a mouse click.
