What's new in Capture NX 2.4.7

  • Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 V3 and COOLPIX S810C has been added.
  • The following issues have been resolved:
  • Auto distortion control was not applied to images captured with some cameras, and Auto Distortion in the Camera & Lens Corrections section of the Edit List palette was not displayed.
  • When RAW images captured with some cameras and saved using Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.4.5 or earlier were opened, white balance effects sometimes changed.

New in Capture NX 2.4.6 (Feb 4, 2014)

  • Updates that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions:
  • Support for RAW images captured with the D3300 has been added.
  • Advanced settings, such as Sharpening, under Camera Settings > Picture Control in the Develop section of the Edit List palette can now be adjusted, even when Unchanged is selected for Picture Control when RAW images are opened.
  • The following modifications and additions have been applied to White Balance > New WB in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette.
  • An Auto 1 option has been added to White Balance > New WB options. Capture NX 2 adjusts white balance for colors similar to those achieved in images captured with a camera's Auto 1 (Normal) * white balance setting.
  • However, only RAW images captured with the following cameras are supported.
  • The D7000 and later digital SLR cameras
  • Advanced cameras with interchangeable lenses
  • The COOLPIX A as well as the COOLPIX P7100 and later COOLPIX cameras that support recording in the NRW format
  • *Auto white balance setting with cameras that do not offer an Auto 2 (Keep warm lighting colors) option
  • Adjustment units available with the Tint option have been changed from 1 to 0.01 for more precise specification.
  • The adjustment range for Fine Adjustment when Direct sunlight is selected for Daylight has been expanded from 4132–7042k to 2500–7042k.
  • Adjustment using Fine Adjustment and Tint is now possible when Recorded Value, Auto 1, Auto 2, or Underwater is selected.
  • The following issues have been resolved:
  • Macintosh version only:
  • When image files saved to a disk formatted using the FAT32 architecture were edited and saved, editing details were not applied.
  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.6 has been eliminated

New in Capture NX 2.4.5 (Nov 12, 2013)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D5300 and the Df has been added.
  • The Better Quality 2012 option under Noise Reduction in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette has been changed to Better Quality 2013.
  • Applicable from this version, Intensity and Sharpness can now be adjusted separately for both Luminance and Color. Therefore, when images to which Better Quality 2012 was applied with Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.4.4 or earlier are opened in Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.4.5, the effects of Noise Reduction adjustment may change.

New in Capture NX 2.4.4 (Sep 24, 2013)

  • Modifications that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions:
  • Support for RAW images captured with the COOLPIX P7800 has been added.
  • An Automatic (Underwater) option has been added to the Auto Distortion pull-down menu under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Adjust section of the Edit List. However, the Automatic (Underwater) option is only displayed when all of the following conditions are met:
  • The image was captured with an advanced camera with interchangeable lenses that supports underwater automatic distortion control, and a lens that also supports the function.
  • The image was captured in RAW format or in JPEG format with the camera's Auto distortion control function disabled.
  • The following issues have been resolved with this release:
  • When the slider bar was manipulated while applying settings such as Gaussian Blur, High Pass, or Colorize, flicker in the form of random blocks was sometimes displayed.
  • When an image was edited using the LCH tool in the Adjust section of the Edit List, a message prompting the user to restart the application was sometimes displayed.

New in Capture NX 2.4.2 (May 7, 2013)

  • When RAW images captured with a D600 running C firmware Ver. 1.01 at an Image area setting of DX (24×16) 1.5× and any Active D-Lighting setting other than Off were opened in Capture NX 2, a bright (whitish) diagonal line was visible. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.4.1 (Mar 13, 2013)

  • Modifications that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions:
  • Support for RAW images captured with the D7100 has been added.
  • An Auto2 option has been added to New WB under White Balance in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette. This option is available with RAW images taken with the D7000. However, colors will differ slightly from those achieved with the camera's White Balance set to AUTO2 Keep warm lighting colors.
  • The following issues have been resolved:
  • When some color profiles were used as the monitor (or display) profile, colors were extremely blue.
  • When the Selection Control Point was dragged, an error was sometimes displayed and Capture NX 2 would quit unexpectedly.
  • When some color profiles were used and the Soft Proof feature enabled, colors were sometimes strange.
  • When a large number of color profiles were registered with the computer, Capture NX 2 was sometimes unable to open images.

New in Capture NX 2.4.0 (Feb 5, 2013)

  • MODIFICATIONS THAT APPLY TO BOTH THE WINDOWS AND MACINTOSH VERSIONS:
  • Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 J3 and Nikon 1 S1 has been added.
  • An issue that, in some rare cases, prevented display of some JPEG images has been resolved.
  • The following modifications have been made to White Balance in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette:
  • Underwater can now be selected from New WB. However, Underwater can only be selected for RAW images captured with a camera that supports Underwater white balance.
  • Resulting colors have been corrected when Flash was selected from New WB for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 V2.
  • ADDITIONAL MODIFICATIONS TO THE MACINTOSH VERSION:
  • Support for high-resolution display on Macintosh computers with a built-in Retina display has been added. However, this applies only to image display in the image window.

  • When RAW images captured with a camera’s Auto distortion control function enabled were opened or edited, Capture NX 2 sometimes quit unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved

New in Capture NX 2.3.2 (Apr 25, 2012)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D3200 has been added.
  • When NEF files edited using the unsharp mask function and then saved were later opened, or copied and opened, the images sometimes appeared corrupted. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.3.0 (Feb 15, 2012)

  • An issue that prevented application of Auto Distortion in the Develop>Camera & Lens Corrections section of the Edit List palette to images captured with the combination of a Nikon 1 V1 or Nikon 1 J1 camera with A and B firmware version 1.10 installed and a 1 NIKKOR lens has been resolved.
  • Lens information is now displayed in the Metadata palette for images captured with the Nikon 1 V1 or Nikon 1 J1 using the Mount Adapter FT1 and a CPU lens.
  • Support for images captured with the Nikon 1 V1 and Nikon 1 J1 using the Mount Adapter FT1 has been added.
  • An Astro Noise Reduction option has been added to Noise Reduction in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette. This option reduces the randomly spaced bright pixels that occur in images of stars captured with long exposures.
  • An Auto2 option has been added to New WB under White Balance in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette. This option is available with RAW images taken with the COOLPIX P7100.
  • When white balance is changed to Auto2 and a settings file saved, a white balance setting of Recorded Value will be applied if the settings file is used on a RAW image that does not support the Auto2 white balance setting.
  • When Set Gray Point was selected from White Balance in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette, and the image clicked to specify a portion to use as the gray point, the point selected was sometimes not accurately reflected in the resulting white balance if the image had first been rotated. This issue has been resolved.
  • This software now operates as a native 64-bit application under Mac OS.
  • An Embed Preview When Saving NEF/NRW item with Thumbnail and Preview and Thumbnail only options has been added to the General panel of the Preferences accessed from the Capture NX 2 menu.
  • In addition, preview images can later be added to NEF/NRW files saved without embedding them using the new Update Preview option in the Browser palette context menu and File menu.
  • The default setting for the Use Image Cache option in the Cache Settings panel of the Preferences, accessed from the Capture NX 2 menu, has been changed to off (not checked).
  • When Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.3.0 is installed with the Use Image Cache option enabled (checked) with the previous version of Capture NX 2, Use Image Cache will be disabled (unchecked) and cached data will be deleted.
  • When the selection brush was used to edit an image with the image window displayed at a large size (1980 × 1080, 1512 × 1008, etc.), Capture NX 2 sometimes quit unexpected. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.2.8 (Sep 23, 2011)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 V1, Nikon 1 J1 and COOLPIX P7100 has been added.
  • Information for lenses used with the Auto Distortion correction function under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Develop section of the Edit List has been updated.
  • When the Auto Lateral Color Aberration function under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Develop section of the Edit List was applied to RAW images, gray edges were, in some rare cases, displayed in some portions of the subject. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.2.7 (May 12, 2011)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D5100 has been added.
  • The following issues have been resolved.
  • In some rare cases, when the Highlight Protection function under Quick Fix in the Develop section of the Edit List was applied to RAW images, edges around highlights were darkened.
  • When the Image Dust Off function under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Develop section of the Edit List was applied to reduce reflection of dust on the image sensor in images, the results of this dust reduction were sometimes noticeable.
  • When RAW images captured with the camera’s auto distortion control function enabled were opened, or the Auto Distortion function under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Develop section of the Edit List was set to Automatic for a RAW image, Capture NX 2 sometimes quit unexpectedly.
  • RAW images sometimes could not be opened, or, when attempting to open a RAW image, Capture NX 2 sometimes quit unexpectedly.
  • Mac OS X only - When an image was saved with Capture NX 2, time of the Date Created information recorded to Exif data was sometimes not correct.

New in Capture NX 2.2.6 (Oct 28, 2010)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D7000 has been added.
  • Support for Nikon Message Center 2 has been added.
  • On systems to which ViewNX 2 has been installed, Nikon Transfer 2 is now launched when the Launch Nikon Transfer button is clicked or Launch Nikon Transfer… is selected from the File menu.
  • When Photo Effects... was selected from the Filter menu, and the Auto button in the Photo Effects palette was clicked multiple times, the Brightness value sometimes decreased. This issue has been resolved.
  • When a RAW image captured with the D3100 using a Nikon Speedlight was saved in NEF format after adjustments under the Develop section of the Edit List had been applied, and the new NEF image was later opened, the adjustments applied were reflected in the image, but the adjustments and their values were not properly applied under the Develop section of the Edit List. This issue has been resolved.
  • However, even when such images saved with Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.5 are opened in Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.6, adjustments will not be properly applied. Adjustments must be reapplied using Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.6.
  • When NRW images captured with the COOLPIX P7000 and a Nikon Speedlight were opened, Capture NX 2 quit unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.2.5 (Aug 25, 2010)

  • Support for Mac OS X 10.6.4 has been added
  • Support for RAW images captured with the D3100 has been added
  • Information for lenses used with the Auto Distortion correction function under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Develop section of the Edit List has been updated.

  • A Preferences button has been added.
  • In the following situations, D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 and custom Picture Controls created from any of these are not displayed under Stored Picture Controls.
  • When a RAW image captured with the D3100 or another Nikon digital-SLR camera that does not support Picture Control is selected as the sample image.
  • When Always use the latest Color Reproduction Process is selected in the Picture Control Utility preferences dialog
  • Some specifications for Picture Control under Camera Settings in the Develop section of the Edit List have been modified. They are as follows:
  • In the following situations, Contrast and Brightness can now be adjusted for RAW images captured with Active D-Lighting enabled.
  • RAW images captured with the D3100 or D60
  • When Always use the latest Color Reproduction Process is selected in the Picture Control Utility preferences dialog.
  • In the following situations, D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 and custom Picture Controls created from any of these are not displayed in the Picture Control pull-down menu.
  • For RAW images captured with the D3100 or another Nikon digital-SLR camera that does not support Picture Control
  • For NRW-format RAW images
  • When Always use the latest Color Reproduction Process is selected in the Picture Control Utility preferences dialog
  • When Always use the latest Color Reproduction Process is selected in the Picture Control Utility preferences dialog and the following images are opened, a message will be displayed and the images will be opened with the Standard Picture Control applied.
  • RAW images captured with the in-camera Picture Control function set to D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these
  • RAW images captured with a Nikon digital-SLR camera that does not support Picture Control to which the D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these has been applied and the images saved in NEF format using Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.2.4 or earlier
  • RAW images, for which D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these has been selected from the Picture Control pull-down menu with Use the Color Reproduction Process applied in camera selected in the Picture Control Utility preferences dialog, saved in NEF format
  • However, for images captured with the COOLPIX P6000 saved in NRW format with D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these applied with Use the Color Reproduction Process applied in camera selected, a message will be displayed and the images will be opened with the Standard Picture Control applied.
  • An issue that prevented smooth display of gradations when certain RAW images were opened has been resolved. However, this issue may remain with some images.
  • When the Image Dust Off function under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Develop section of the Edit List was applied, block noise was generated in some very rare cases. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.2.4 (Jan 22, 2010)

  • Compatibility with Mac OS X version 10.6.2 has been added.
  • Specifications have been modified so that when 25 Photos on Page, or a higher number of photos per page, is selected for Select Layout in the Print layout dialog, the Use Thumbnail Data (Draft Use Only) box is automatically checked.
  • This resolves an issue that prevented printing when 25 Photos on Page, or a higher number of photos per page, was selected for Select Layout.
  • Capture NX 2 would quit unexpectedly when certain settings files were applied with the Apply Settings box checked in the Watched Folder panel of the Batch Process dialog. This issue has been resolved.
  • An issue that caused Capture NX 2 to freeze when switching images after the Color Picker had been opened has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.2.3 (Nov 26, 2009)

  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.5.8 has been added.
  • Support for RAW images captured with the D3S has been added.
  • When RAW (NEF/NRW) images with GPS information embedded were saved in JPEG format, GPS information was modified in some rare cases. This issue has been resolved.
  • An accurate flash compensation value was not displayed for images captured using Advanced Wireless Lighting. This issue has been reolved.
  • When the Verify button in the Profile First Aid panel of Mac OS X's Color Sync Utility was clicked to verify image profiles, they were recognized as bad files. This issue has been resolved (for most profiles*).
  • Some profiles are still recognized as bad profiles, but this does not effect Capture NX 2 operation.

New in Capture NX 2.2.2 (Aug 27, 2009)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D300S and D3000 has been added.
  • An issue that caused Capture NX 2 to quit unexpectedly with batch processing to save RAW images captured in portrait (“tall”) orientation, with specific enhancements applied, in JPEG or TIFF format has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.2.0 (Mar 31, 2009)

  • Support for Mac OSX 10.5.6 has been added.
  • Support for NRW-format RAW images captured with the COOLPIX P6000 has been added.
  • Capture NX 2 Picture Controls are compatible with digital-SLR Picture Controls.
  • As Picture Controls built into the COOLPIX P6000 are COOLPIX Picture Controls, modifying Picture Control settings with Capture NX 2 will not produce the same colours as in-camera Picture Controls.
  • Some changes have been made to the file-type filter on the toolbar.
  • An Axial Colour Aberration correction function has been added to the Camera & Lens Corrections portion of the Edit List's Develop section.
  • With the addition of the Axial Colour Aberration correction function, other function labels have been modified as follows. Auto Colour Aberration in the Camera & Lens Corrections portion of the Edit List's Develop section has been changed to Auto Lateral Colour Aberration. The Colour Aberration Control option, selected from the Adjust menu > Correct, has been renamed Lateral Colour Aberration.
  • An Auto Distortion correction function has been added to the Camera & Lens Corrections portion of the Edit List's Develop section.
  • Batch processing speed has been increased.
  • When a batch process was applied to images stored on an external hard disk, processing order was performed in the order the images were created. The Processing order has now been modified so that images are processed in alphabetical order by file name.
  • When the Adjust menu>Light>Auto Levels' option was applied to images captured with the D3X, in some rare cases, the enhanced images had a blue cast. This issue has been resolved.
  • When RAW images captured with the D60 with Active D-Lighting enabled were opened, in some rare cases, the images did not display properly. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.1.1 (Dec 26, 2008)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D3X has been added.
  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.5.5 has been added.
  • When images containing GPS information captured with another manufacturer’s digital camera were opened, GPS information was not displayed. This issue has been resolved.
  • When RAW images captured with another manufacturer’s lens and the camera’s Vignette control item in the shooting menu set to any option other than Off were opened, Capture NX 2 sometimes froze. This issue has been resolved.
  • When attempting to open 1-bit monochrome TIFF (LZW) images, Capture NX 2 quit unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved.
  • When attempting to open some images saved in NEF format using Nikon Capture or Capture NX Ver. 1.x, Capture NX 2 quit unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved.
  • When images were opened in Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.0.0 when the optional Picture Controls were not installed, and image Picture Control setting was modified and then a settings file saved, Picture Control settings were not accurately reflected when the settings file was applied to images later opened in Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.1.0 where the optional Picture Controls were installed. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 2.1 (Sep 17, 2008)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D90 has been added.
  • An Extra High item has been added to the Active D-Lighting pulldown menu under Camera Settings in the Develop section of the Edit List. This option is only available for RAW images captured with any setting other than Off selected for Active D-Lighting in the camera's Shooting Menu.
  • Image Dust Off reference photos acquired with cameras sch as the D3 and D300 are applied more effectively.
  • An issue theat caused Picture COntrol settings to be improperly applied with the following operation has been resolved:
  • The D2XMODE1 Picture Control is applied to an image from the Picture Control options under Camera Settings in the Develop section of the Edit List, and a settings file is saved from the image. (optional Landscape/Portrait Controls not yet installed).
  • The optional Landscape and/or Portrait Picture Control(s) is installed.
  • The settings file saved in step 1 is used for batch processing.
  • Picture Control settings for processed images are D2XMODE2 or D2XMODE3.

New in Capture NX 1.3.4 (Jul 17, 2008)

  • Support for optional Picture Controls has been added. A dedicated button for downloading optional Picture Controls using the Picture Control Utility has been added. When downloaded optional Picture Controls files are installed, they are added to the Picture Controls available in the Picture Control palette opened from " Base Adjustments > Camera Adjustments > Picture Control " in the Capture NX Edit List, as well as to the Stored Picture Controls in the Picture Control Utility. * The names of the following colored gel filters, which can now be used with the Speedlight SB-900, are added to the " Flash " submenu in the White Balance palette opened from " Base Adjustments > RAW Adjustments > White Balance " in the Edit List:
  • FL-G1 / FL-G2: filter for fluorescent light.
  • TN-A1 / TN-A2: filter for incandescent light.
  • A Colored Gel Filter item has been added to the Shooting Info area in the Camera Settings palette.
  • When a new white balance setting was applied with selection of " Calculate Automatically " from the New WB pulldown menu in the White Balance palette opened from " Base Adjustments > RAW Adjustments > White Balance " in the Edit List, and " Set Gray Point " then selected from the " Set Color Temperature / Set Gray Point " pulldown menu, the values for the " Red " and " Blue " sliders remained at 1. This issue has been resolved.
  • An issue that caused the white balance setting specified in step 1 with the operation described below to be displayed as the current white balance setting in the New WB pulldown menu has been resolved:
  • When RAW images captured with the D3 or D300 at sensitivity settings in the LO range were opened, they were completely black. The issue has been resolved.
  • When RAW images captured at some preset manual white balance settings were opened, they were incorrectly displayed with lines or bands, or completely white. This issue has been resolved.

New in Capture NX 1.3.3 (Apr 15, 2008)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the D3 (A and B firmware v1.10 and later), and the "Vignette Control" option enabled, has been added.
  • New "Artist, Copyright, and Vignette Control" items have been added to the Camera Settings palette. In addition, the categories displayed in the Camera Settings palette have been changed from "File / Shooting Info / Picture Control / Flash, and GPS" to "File Info / Shooting Info / Picture Control and GPS". Items in each category have been modified.
  • An issue that caused an error to occur with some systems when opening an image saved in TIFF format with LZW compression has been resolved.
  • When a folder containing a Dust Off Reference photo was selected from the Dust Off Settings Palette, accessed from "1.Base Adjustments / RAW Adjustments / Dust Off" , for use with a RAW image captured with the D1X or D1H, an alert stating that "No Dust Off reference photo was present" would display, and the Reference Photo could not be used. This issue has been resolved.
  • When a white balance settings file, saved with "fine tuning" of the "Calculate Automatically" option in the White Balance settings palette, accessed from "1. Base Adjustments / RAW Adjustments / White Balance", was applied to another image, the white balance settings were not reflected. This issue has been resolved.
  • When Picture Control settings were applied to a RAW image captured with a camera that does not support Picture Control from the Quick Adjustment category in the View NX Camera Settings palette, an the image was then opened in Capture NX, the Picture Control setting in the Picture Control settings palette, accessed from 1. Base Adjustments / Camera Adjustments / Picture Control , remainedNon-Picture Control. This issue has been resolved

New in Capture NX 1.3.0 (Nov 22, 2007)

  • Support for RAW pictures taken with the D3 and D300 has been added.
  • Support for Picture Control has been added.
  • A Picture Control has been added to Camera Adjustments in the Base Adjustments. The Color Mode, Tone Compensation, Saturation, and Sharpening items in Camera Adjustments, as well as the Hue Adjustment in RAW Adjustments, have been moved to the new Picture Control item.
  • An Active D-Lighting item has been added to RAW Adjustments in the Base Adjustments. This feature is only available with RAW images captured with Active D-Lighting enabled.
  • The White Balance item has been moved to RAW Adjustments in the Base Adjustments, and Sodium Vapor Lamps and High Temperature Mercury Vapor (7200K) settings have been added.
  • RAW images can now be saved with lossless compression.Images captured in lossless-compressed RAW format can now be saved in lossless-compressed RAW format, regardless of camera model.(Limited to use with images captured with Nikon digital-SLR cameras.)
  • The vignette control function, which was previously for use only with RAW images, can now be used with JPEG- and TIFF- format images. (Limited to use with images captured with Nikon digital-SLR cameras.)
  • The function for modifying images captured with a fisheye lens, available in Lens Adjustments in the Base Adjustments, is now compatible with the AF Fisheye-Nikkor 16mm f/2.8D.
  • Features for editing RAW images, previously available in the Camera Settings palette, have been eliminated.
