PNG Viewer Apps and Alternatives

PNG (acronym for Portable Network Graphic) is an image file format which comes with support for lossless data compression.

The PNG image format was created to overcome the limitations of GIF, namely to increase color support and to offer an image format with no patent license.

As opposite to GIFs that can have either opaque or transparent colors, PNGs features an 8-bit transparency channel so that colors can fade from transparent to opaque.

PNG viewing apps allow their users to display PNG files, but there are also more and more apps which also come with support for basic editing functions.

PNG viewers may also be used by users to export PNG images to other graphic formats.
