M4B is a multimedia format that stores audiobook files based on the MPEG-4 container format and is usually compressed using the AAC encoding format.

The M4B format is used by audiobooks downloaded from Apple's iTunes store.

These audiobooks may also feature Apple's FairPlay DRM copyright protection, which means they may only be played on authorized computers or iPods.

All apps that comw with built-in support for the M4B format offer their users the option to play their files as a part of a more complex playlist.

Some M4B players will also allow users to easily onvert their M4B files to more popular audio formats.
