RS is also known as RAS (short for Sun Raster Graphic) and an image raster format created and used by Sun Microsystems. The RS format is used to save image files that can be either uncompressed or compressed using the RLE graphics compression algorithm.

Because RS is not a very popular image format, users have the option to use graphic converters to quickly convert their images to more common formats.

These specialized apps will enable their users to choose the output format they need.

Furthermore, one may also use RS converters to quickly preview their images and to rotate or apply various graphic effects.
