Smokers claim that they cannot quit this habit because the body can no longer resist without a dose of nicotine or they cannot stay motivated long enough.

Whereas the first issue may be solved with nicotine patches, the second part can be achieved using motivational applications.

They can be either standalone tools that popup encouraging messages at regular intervals of time, but they may also be browser add-ons or desktop gadgets that display how much time and money you have saved since you quit.   

These apps' advantage is that they can seamlessly integrate on one's Mac, and they get noticed only when their motivational messages are displayed.
