iMuse is a Mac OS X note-taking application that enables you to write, manage and organize ideas into tagable sticky notes. The app comes with basic formatting options and two areas where you can write notes: the writing view and the corkboard.

Learning how to use iMuse might cause headaches because it is different from all other writing applications on the market. Luckily, the application includes a built-in help system that explains each and every function step by step.

To start jotting down ideas, you can either use the writing area on the left or the corkboard. In the writing view, you are able to build the 3-part structure of a note: the chapter title, section title and body text.

Moreover, there are various buttons you can use to insert new parts into the note. Parts can be split and merged, you can insert text into parts from the notes in the corkboard and drag and drop entire notes or just parts onto the corkboard.

The corkboard works just like a simple panel where you can add, move and resize sticky notes. A toolbar at the top of the corkboard that appears when hovering over allows you to insert a new note, a note part, an image, to clear the entire corkboard and more.

Another important feature is the ability to assign tags to each note, note part and even selection of text. Tags can be operated via the writing view in a separate tagging window. IMuse comes with a Tag Manager where you can add more details to existing tags.

To sum up, iMuse might be difficult to use during the first encounter, but implements an interesting concept. Although you have many options to work with, the app feels like it needs a more intuitive approach to make it more user-friendly.
