Writer For Mac

Writer is a minimalist OS X text editing application that provides support for the Fountain language. Just use the appropriate markup to format your screenplays, and Writer allows you to preview the result.

The Writer user interface is represented by an unadorned window where you can directly start writing text. To apply formatting rules, just include the correct Fountain markup.

Via the Writer Help menu, you are quickly directed to the Fountain website that hosts a syntax overview.

Of course, it would be nice if Writer incorporated a panel with the most common formatting rules. This way, you could review the rules at a glance, without having to read extensive explanations, even if you are not connected to the internet.

Within the Writer main window you get to effortlessly toggle between the preview and editing mode: this way, you get to check if you have used the correct markup with minimal effort.

Writer allows you to open more than one window at the same time, so you can work on various projects concomitantly.

The application enables you to save the current project using the .fountain file format, but you also have the option to send the file directly to the printer.

Among other things, the Print customization panel also offers you the possibility to save your screenplay to a PDF document.

There are numerous screenwriting applications out there that aim to make your work easier, but if you enjoy using the Fountain markup language, Writer proves to be everything you need.

The utility automatically recognizes the Fountain syntax and enables you to preview the output with a simple mouse click. However, including details about the supported markup within the app might prove useful.
