Save time while typing by creating shortcuts for commonly-used snippets, which can even include complex macros and can be inserted with a simple command #Text Expander #Insert Snippet #Snippet Manager #Snippet #Expander #Abbreviation
All jobs involve some kinds of repetitive tasks, such as typing something over and over again, or at least a variation of it. If you could somehow make this process more efficient, it would be faster and better for your fingers.
Rocket Typist can help with tasks that require you to write identical or similar things repeatedly. It allows you to create fixed or variable snippets that can then be inserted with a couple of clicks or a simple abbreviation.
Snippets can be as simple or complex as you need them to be. They can consist of a single word, emoji, or image, all the way to a block of code or multiple paragraphs. You can organize them into folders and sort them as needed.
More importantly, you can use macros to add more flexibility to these snippets. Macros allow you to add customizable elements that can be changed every time you use a snippet. These can include custom text, dates, multiple options, clipboard content, and more.
Once you have everything set up, each snippet can have an abbreviation associated with it. When you type this and press Space, it will be expanded into the complete snippet. If it includes macros, a window will pop up where you can select the right options or provide the required info.
Alternatively, you can copy the snippet directly to the clipboard, either from the editor or the menu bar. Once there, you can paste it in any text editor or similar app. Rocket Typist can also paste it directly into the frontmost application.
On the whole, Rocket Typist does a great job, and it’s a solid choice for users who need to use a lot of snippets and want a convenient way to organize them. The free version has quite a bit of functionality, but it’s limited to ten snippets, so it won’t get you very far. Thankfully, the full edition is a reasonably affordable one-time purchase.
What's new in Rocket Typist 3.0.9:
- New Features:
- The date macro is now being translated into the system language, not the app language. This means that date formats are supported even if the app does not support this language overall.
- Pressing cmd-F now activates the search field.
- The way a sidebar item looks when the title is being edited has been improved.
