Noteup is a more lightweight option, primarily designed for developers. It features a simple layout and supports GitHub-flavored Markdown, live preview, syntax highlighting, linked notes, multi-cursor editing, and keyboard shortcuts. It’s available for macOS, Windows, Linux, and as a web app.

The app’s interface will be instantly familiar to any Mac user. A classic three-panel layout lets you switch between categories and preview notes. You can pin notes for easy access, and a search function is available as well.

When writing notes, you can enable the side-by-side live preview to see how the document will look once rendered. The app supports syntax highlighting, which is nice for developers, and you can link notes to other notes.

While the app is available for multiple platforms, it is not currently possible to sync your notes between devices. This might not be an issue for privacy-oriented users, and you can still export your data manually and import it on another device.

As far as customization goes, you can disable various editor features and change the app’s theme, but you cannot hide any of the panels in the main GUI, and the preset keyboard shortcuts cannot be altered.

If there’s one thing Noteup has going for it, it’s a remarkably intuitive design, provided you’re already familiar with Markdown. Otherwise, you might struggle a bit since the app doesn’t provide any sort of assistance regarding Markdown commands.

Overall, it’s a good choice for users who need a simple, lightweight Markdown note app that can be used on multiple platforms and doesn’t complicate your workflow. It still lacks some features, such as synchronization, Markdown assistance, and more extensive customization, but it has a lot going for it otherwise.
