Minimalist and easy to use Markdown editor which helps you focus on you're writing and work at night using a built-in night mode. #Write Markdown #Markdown editor #Text editor #Markdown #Write #Edit
You can write text on your Mac using TextEdit, the default text editor in macOS, but, if you need to create rich text using a markup language such as Markdown, this is not a very good idea since TextEdit will not allow you to preview your work.
EME is an open source and multi-platform Markdown editor, designed to provide you with a minimalist user interface for formatting plain text.
You can use the EME app as a simple editor, as an editor with a built-in Markdown rendering panel, or for previewing your Markdown-formatted content.
Switching between modes can be done with the help of the "Switch Writing Mode" entry in the View menu, using the three dedicated buttons at the bottom right side of EME's main window or with the help of the ⇧ + ⌘ + M keyboard shortcut.
You can open EME's Preferences dialog by clicking on the cogwheel button at the top right side of EME's main screen.
Unfortunately, there is no built-in support for the default ⌘ + , global hotkey designed for this particular purpose which means that the first time you will need to adjust the app's options, you will have to hover your mouse around EME's interface until you stumble upon the dedicated button.
If you work late in the night frequently, EME provides you with a night mode which can be toggled on via the View menu or with the ⇧ + ⌘ + N shortcut.
EME also comes with support for editing text in full-screen which, when combined with its Focus mode designed to highlight the current paragraph, will help you concentrate on your work and avoid distractions.
Once you finish editing your Markdown-formatted text, you can export it to a PDF document for sharing with your team or to a Markdown file for later editing.
EME comes with a welcoming guide and a math typesetting tutorial, but, regrettably, I was not able to open them using the app's Help menu. The only way you could view them would be to download the math typesetting and the welcoming guide from the app's GitHub page, and view them using EME.
Regarding the math typesetting, EME makes use of the KaTex library to render math symbols. You can include mathematics expressions by wrapping them between two $ signs, or between two $ signs if you need to add an entire block of math expressions.
Taking all of the above in consideration, EME is the tool you need if you have to use Markdown on a daily basis and an editor with an inbuilt preview tab.
Moreover, EME also provides you with a handy focus mode to remove distractions from your writing environment, especially when using the app in full-screen.
