Many people prefer to keep their Mac’s desktop clean, getting rid of any items that are not absolutely necessary. However, if you want to have various applications, documents or folders within reach, but keep them organized at the same time, you could try iCollections.
It is a simple utility that allows you to create multiple ‘collections’ on your desktop that can be used to store icons and group related items for easy access.
iCollections provides a simple, but useful function. It makes it possible to create multiple groups that are displayed as shaded windows and store shortcuts, documents, folders or any other item that may be found on your desktop.
Their appearance is fully customizable, as you can modify their transparency, size, shape and color scheme. The icons can be displayed in multiple sizes, and you can choose whether or not the title bar should be displayed at all times.
Aside from making it easier to locate various items, iCollections integrates well with the OS X interface, and the collections themselves can be customized to blend in with the color scheme and background you are using.
Also, if you tend to add and remove icons from your desktop often, there is little incentive to spend time sorting them, and you may often end up placing them haphazardly, just to save time. With this application, you can simply drop them in a collection containing similar items and carry on with your work.
If your desktop is particularly overcrowded, the job of organizing it for the first time can be quite tiresome. iCollections can help you out, however, as it can import items depending on their type (pictures, documents, folders), relieving you of the task of having to move all of them manually.
Unfortunately, however, you cannot choose where on your hard drives the items should be moved when they are placed in a collection, and this can be a problem if you keep large files or folders on your desktop.
To sum up, iCollections is an intuitive app that can prove to be very helpful if you are looking for a simple way to organize all the items on your Mac’s desktop.
