MovieDesktop For Mac

If you need and application capable to display various movies on your Mac’s desktop wallpaper then, MovieDesktop is the utility you are looking for.

MovieDesktop is an unobtrusive and user-oriented OS X application specially designed to help you watch your favorite videos directly form your Mac’s desktop without opening a new window or application.

In other words, MovieDesktop will help you play one or more video files and animate your wallpaper while you work or study.

From MovieDesktop’s status bar menu you can open a folder containing multiple video files or play a single video file. You can also set MovieDesktop to play all the movies discovered in a given folder. On top of that, you can loop or mute your video and jump to the next video in the folder.

Unfortunately, MovieDesktop does not provide volume or playback controls and the only way to adjust the sound volume is by changing the system output volume.

It would have been useful if MovieDesktop provided a playlist from which you could add or remove files or change the playback order of the loaded files.

Although, MovieDesktop features a sharing feature, this function is not meant for sharing the name of the movie or video you are currently watching. You can use “Share on Twitter” to tweet about the application you are using to set videos as your Mac’s desktop wallpaper.

However, you can manually edit the text and write your own message. Another practical feature that we hope to see in future updates, might be the option to hide the Dock icon while a video is played.
