Finer Focus For Mac

Distractions are everywhere, and especially on your desktop. With so many things to do when you fire up your Mac, it is understandable that staying focused on something that might not be particularly interesting is not easy. As you can imagine, however, there are apps out there designed to help you.

Finer Focus is the one we're looking at today, and it is certainly an interesting option. It was created to help users block out everything else on their desktop when a window is in the foreground, and it offers an impressive amount of customization options.

Once the app is running, you will notice that every window in the background, as well as the desktop, dock and menu bar, are slightly blurred and dimmed. The frontmost window will not be affected, making it easier to focus on its contents.

There are multiple presets that use various blur and dimming levels, as well as different colors. You can select any of them or disable the application by clicking its menu bar icon.

Initially, the app uses a "Night Time" focus mode, which should be suitable for low-light conditions. There are plenty of other modes to choose from, though, and each one can be modified to suit your preferences.

You can change how much the desktop, menu bar and dock are dimmed or blurred, and the menu bar and dock can also be made partially translucent. You can determine how quickly the app should switch focus between windows.

Finally, Finer Focus lets you decide when windows and the desktop should be revealed. Aside from the automatic switch when you move between windows, the app can also lessen the blur and dim intensity on mouse or keyboard activity, and the amount is customizable.

Finer Focus can help you out a great deal if you find that your desktop and background windows can be too distracting. It blurs and dims everything else on your screen while leaving the foreground window unaffected, making it much easier to focus on what you are doing.
