Webcam manufacturers don’t have the best track record when it comes to creating software for their products. Their apps tend to be resource-hungry, and they often include functionality for managing all their other peripherals, making them bloated and inefficient.

Viewfinder is an open-source Swift-based app that offers an alternative to official software. It gives you more customization options than Photo Booth and allows you to preview what your webcam’s image before starting a call or capturing anything.

Assuming your camera is connected, and you’ve given the app the required permissions, you can go to the menu bar and click its icon. You’ll see a preview of the webcam’s feed, with a bunch of settings available for fine-tuning.

Everything is managed automatically by default, but you can manually change shutter speed, white balance, brightness, contrast, and saturation. Your selected settings will remain active even after closing the app.
