trolCommander For Mac

trolCommander is a fork of the muCommander open source project that provides a dual-pane interface as a replacement for the default OS X file management system.

trolCommander brings to the table all the original functionalities packed by the muCommander project while also making improvements and adding new features.

Users familiar with the TotalCommander application for Windows will find managing files via trolCommander particularly intuitive. Within the app’s main interface you get to browse local folders, see the files or folders properties, transfer items, compare directories, and much more.

trolCommander can also connect to remote storage locations using various protocols, such as SMB, FTP, SFTP, HTTP, or NFS. The file manager also comes with a built-in Terminal where you can easily run shell commands.

Moreover, trolCommander can be used to create or open various types of archives, such as ZIP, GZIP, LST, TAR, RAR, 7z, BZip, ISO, or AR.

At the moment, trolCommander does not come with any documentation, but most of the file management tasks can be performed via hotkeys, and you can access a comprehensive list of the supported keyboard combinations through the Help menu.

One of the drawbacks of the muCommander application is that it does not come with file search tools. trolCommander remedies the situation by allowing you to find files by name or content.

trolCommander offers you the possibility to specify the text encoding used by the file, the source directory, and can also scan subdirectories. You can also make the results case sensitive, choose to ignore hidden files, or perform your queries even within archives.

Worth mentioning is that trolCommander openly aims to revive the development of a project that has been dormant for some time. trolCommander preserves all the muCommander capabilities, but also makes improvements and adds support for new functions.
