Monitor your daily application usage with this helpful utility that measures the length of time each app has spent in the forefront and displays useful statistics in your menu bar #Monitor application usage #Track app usage #Application monitor #Application usage #Monitor #Tracker
It is sometimes difficult to get a good idea of just how much time you spend using various applications over the course of a day, whether you want to track your habits, or figure out how you can increase your overall productivity.
madoka, a lightweight menu bar app, may offer the solution, as it monitors which applications are in the forefront at all times and displays the gathered data in list and pie chart form for analysis.
madoka is very simple to use, as all you have to to is start it up and get on with your regular activities. Once an application has been used for more than a minute, madoka will add an entry for it, and you will be able to see how much time it has spent on top of all other windows during the specified interval.
The data is shown in a list, sorted based on the amount of time each app has spent in the forefront, as well as in a pie chart that can display the app’s icon or name.
madoka gathers data continuously after it is launched, and you can choose which time interval should be taken into consideration when it comes to displaying the overall statistics. Your options are one, four or eight hours, as well as the entire day.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to reset the measurements manually, and the available intervals are quite limited in number. It would be great if you could view usage statistics between certain times and generate a larger variation of graphical representations.
Sadly, the data gathered by madoka cannot be saved, which would have allowed you to compare app usage statistics over the course of several days and analyze potential differences. As it stands, they are only available for the current day.
On the whole, madoka is a very simple app that can provide you with an insight into your daily Mac usage habits, but it could be greatly improved with just a few additional customization options, as well as an extended data storage period.
