Katana For Mac

Perhaps the easiest way to share an image is to upload it and provide a direct URL to whomever you're sharing the content with. Unless, of course, the service you have in mind comes with a slow and unintuitive web interface that makes things more complicated than they should be.

Although designed as a screenshot tool, Katana will be especially useful for those who need an easier way to upload images for sharing, whether they are captured with the app or already available on local storage.

To grab a screenshot, all you have to do is use the global hotkey, ⌘⌥S by default. The app employs the same screen capturing function as the macOS screenshot utility, allowing you to snap an area of the desktop or a certain window.

It's worth noting that Katana wasn't really intended for local capture. While the screenshots are stored on your drive, under ~/.katana/uploads, there is no easy way to access this folder or change the default destination.

Any image you capture is automatically uploaded to the configured hosting service. Imgur is used by default, but the app also supports Pomf. Once the upload is complete, the URL is copied to the clipboard.

Katana works great as an image upload utility even if you aren't interested in capturing your screen. Just drag any image to the app's menu bar icon, and it will be uploaded instantly.

If you want to make your URLs as clean and simple as possible before sharing them, you can use the ⌘⌥0 hotkey to pass them through a URL shortening service of your choice.

Until more features are added to make local captures easier to manage, I can only recommend Katana if you're strictly interested in uploading your captures or other images. If that is what you need, however, it works brilliantly.
