WhatsYourSign offers you the possibility to quickly verify if a file is signed or if it uses a trusted certificate. The utility integrates with the macOS contextual menu and quickly displays details about the item's type and signature.
To start using the WhatsYourSign capabilities, you must launch the utility and confirm the installation procedure. When the task completes, you can just remove the app from your system, and the contextual menu option will remain in place.
However, WhatsYourSign also packs uninstallation capabilities, so you might want to keep it on your Mac to correctly remove the utility from your system later on. Aside from the installation and uninstallation procedures, you do not have to interact with the WhatsYourSign app.
Once the WhatsYourSign utility is deployed on your computer, in the contextual menu associated with each file, you will be able to see the “Signing Info” option. Just select the entry and WhatsYourSign will launch a separate panel for the details.
You get to see if the item is signed or not, together with the file’s name, complete path, and type. At the same time, you can view details about the signature authorization: Apple or a third party developer.
In the latter case, WhatsYourSign provides details about the developer name and the developer ID, so you can quickly determine if an application can be trusted or not.
Bottom line, WhatsYourSign offers you the possibility to see if a file is signed or not with the help of an option in the Finder contextual menu. The tool also provides information about the developer name or ID.
