Open-source, cross-platform weekly planner that favors a minimalistic layout and stores all your data locally in the interest of privacy. #Weekly Planner #Task Planner #Task Manager #Planner #Task #Scheduler
With the amount of data being collected by advertisers and various companies, you're well within your rights to be suspicious of cloud-based apps, especially when they involve your private information.
WeekToDo was designed as a simple, local, private weekly planner for users who don't find cloud sync to be essential. It's free and open-source, and it comes with a decent set of features, with the added bonus of being remarkably intuitive.
One of the app's main selling points is that nothing is stored outside of your computer. Of course, this means synchronizing your calendar isn't possible, nor is exporting data to your other calendars. But if all you need is a local planner, this app will do the job.
Thankfully, WeekToDo does support backups, which will be useful if you decide to switch to a different platform (the app is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux) or just want to make sure you don't lose your data by accident.
The user interface is very straightforward, and you don't really need any instructions to figure out how everything works. You have a list of tasks for each day of the week, and you can also create custom lists for things that don't need to be scheduled on a certain day.
Entries can be color-coded, you can add subtasks, set notifications at specific times, and mark tasks as done. The number of columns and zoom level can be changed, and the app can hide elements like the calendar and custom lists.
WeekToDo is Electron-based, which isn't ideal, but it has plenty of other things going for it. It's easy to learn, free, open-source, good for privacy, and available on all three major desktop platforms. It might not be as feature-packed as some paid alternatives, but it should be more than enough for most users.
