Usually, to uninstall OS X applications, all you have to do is drag and drop them to the Trash folder. However, this practice leaves behind all the related files, which will take up disk space unnecessarily.

Uninstool is a minimalist utility designed to find all the files associated with the apps you want to delete, and facilitates their removal.

Working with the Uninstool app proves to be fairly intuitive: simply drag and drop the app you want to delete and the utility will quickly find the related files (logs, cache files, services, crash reports, or preferences files). In the results panel you get to quickly activate the file info window, or you can choose to see the file in the source Finder window.

In the app’s main panel you can see statistics about the apps usage: the total space saved, the space saved last time, the last app that has been cleaned, and the number of items that had to be manually removed.

If you activate the “Force uninstall when applications are moved to the Trash” function, Uninstool will start searching for related files each time you try to uninstall an app by sending it to the Trash.

Unfortunately, if you need to uninstall more than one app, you will have to drag and drop each utility to the Uninstool separately. If you try to scan more than one app, Uninstool will detect only the first entry.

In the result panel you can add new apps, but the drag and drop function does not work anymore: you will have to add the apps through the Finder menu, which naturally takes more time.

To conclude, Uninstool can help you correctly uninstall OS X apps, but since the drag and drop function does not work for multiple apps at the same time, you might find working with it fairly counterintuitive.
