UTC Time For Mac

More and more tech companies are employing people from all around the world, and when it comes to scheduling meetings or just discussing anything time-related, things can quickly get confusing, what with unintuitive time zones and daylight saving.

UTC Time is a very simple app that shows the current UTC time in the menu bar, with a Notification Center widget also available. You can see how far ahead or behind your local time is compared to UTC, as well as copy the current UTC date and time in various formats.

As expected, the app is pretty straightforward. Once launched, it will add a menu bar item that displays the current UTC time, with the option to show the date as well. You also have the option to remove “UTC” from the time display.

As with all other menu bar items, you can hold down Cmd and drag it around to change its position in the menu bar. If you click the time, a menu will appear showing you how far ahead/behind the local time is, and you can also copy the date and/or time to the clipboard in the ISO8601 format or Unix timestamp.

If you like, you can enable the optional widget to see the UTC time in your Notification Center. Note that the app needs to be running for the widget to be updated.

There is no option to hide the time from the menu bar, but there are various apps that can hide unnecessary menu bar items. If you use one of those, you can hide UTC Time in your menu bar and access it via the widget alone.

Overall, UTC Time is a very simple and very helpful little app. It makes it easier to coordinate with people from all around the world, it’s simple to set up, and it costs nothing.
