Turtl is designed to be an alternative and secure solution for storing notes: the app generates a PGP key that will be used to encrypt all the data. The key is based on user provided information, and cannot be retrieved in any way if you forget the password.

Turtl employs encryption tools to make sure your data remains protected from prying eyes. To get started, you must create an account and generate the PGP key: only then you can go ahead and start adding notes.

By default, you are connected to the Turtl service, and the encrypted data will be automatically synced to the server. However, if you want to have full control over the information, you can also opt to use Turtl with your own server.

On the other hand, if you want to be able to share your notes and boards with other Turtl users, you must also create a public persona by providing an email address.

Worth mentioning is that Turtl tries to keep your data safe but does not claim to be a bullet proof solution. Make sure to go online and read more about how the service works and what you can do to ensure the information remains private.

Turtl provides support for storing passwords, files, images, bookmarks, or text notes. The utility also features a status bar menulet that aims to streamline the procedure when it comes to making text notes.

At the same time, you get to keep the notes organized into boards or assign them specific tags that can be used with the built-in search tool. Turtl comes with a couple of predefined boards, but you can easily delete them and start your own collection that might also include nested boards.

You get to share a collection with another user and still protect the data by using the encryption key. In fact, you can even password protect invites, just to be on the safe side.

Turtl integrates user-friendly tools for creating notes and making them available on all your devices without compromising on security. Nonetheless, keep in mind that the utility relies on a cryptographic key that cannot be recovered in case it's lost.

At the moment, Turtl is still under development and can be used free of charge, but if you want to avoid going through the default server, you do have the option to work with a private server.
