TrayPlay For Mac

TrayPlay is a minimalist macOS application that resides in your status bar and offers you the possibility to control your iTunes or Spotify music players without having to interact with the apps interface.

Naturally, to be able to use the TrayPlay application, you must have installed and correctly configured either of the two supported music players: iTunes or Spotify.

However, you do not have to launch them manually: within the TrayPlay Settings, you get to select which one of them you want to control at the time, and TrayPlay will launch any of the two apps automatically.

The TrayPlay utility can also add itself to the list of login items, and you can likewise choose to activate the automatic update function.

Keep in mind that these are the only available customization options: you cannot change the status bar panel appearance, define hotkeys, adjust the volume, choose what metadata you want to see for each track, and so on.

When you activate the TrayPlay status bar panel, you get to see the currently playing track’s name, the artist name, and the album’s artwork. You can readily start or stop the playback, or jump to the next or previous track.

These functions are available both for the iTunes and the Spotify music players, yet you get to control only one player at a time. Nonetheless, using the TrayPlay app to control the players can eliminate many repetitive actions.

TrayPlay is very useful if you want to check the current track’s name or switch to the next or previous song in your iTunes or Spotify playlists, but lacks any customization options that could make things even more time efficient.
