Tiny For Mac

If you capture a screenshot on your Mac, the image’s file name will respect the following pattern: the “Screen Shot” text tag, and then the date and the time when it has been grabbed.

Tiny is a small status bar menu application that aims to add more informative details to this naming template by allowing you to include the name of the source application, the source URL address, or the web page title.

Once installed, the Tiny application requires very little user interaction: the renaming process launches automatically when you capture a new image, and the utility simply resides in your status bar.

However, you must allow the application to control you Mac by adding it to the list of authorized assistive devices, and define a custom naming pattern.

For your convenience, Tiny can also open the grabbed image in QuickLook after renaming the file. If you don’t need this function, simply disable it via the app’s Preferences menu.

The Tiny application is able to include four types of data into the screenshot’s file name: the source application name, the source URL, the web page title of the source URL, and the date and time.

Within the app’s Screen Shot Name Format window you can choose the tags you want to include and remove the others.

Tiny also allows you to include custom text strings: you can choose to include the “Screen Shot” tag, or replace it with some other formula.

Using Tiny can prove to be quite time efficient because you are able to acknowledge the screenshot’s content without wasting time opening the file in Preview.

Nonetheless, the Tiny naming options are quite limited: for example, it would be great if it could include a numbering pattern.
