Time tracking apps aren’t exactly rare, but maybe you just haven’t found the right one yet. We all have different needs and preferences, so you never know when you’ll see one that ticks all the right boxes.

Who knows, it might just be Tim — a simple app with a simple name but a lot of tricks up its sleeve. It is primarily suitable for professionals who need to track time spent on various projects and calculate how much they are owed based on specific hourly rates.

There is no learning curve to speak of. As soon as you launch the app, you can add your first task, maybe create a group once you add another task, and start tracking whenever you like. If you have a fixed hourly rate, you can enter it for each task.

But what if you’ve been working on a project for a while already? Well, assuming you have time tracking data from another app, you can either import it or add the old records manually. However, you can only use the import function if you get the Pro upgrade.

There are several types of visual representations for the data you have recorded, along with a simple listing of tasks in text-only form. You can filter entries by group, task, and time, and you also have a search function for specific queries.

Aside from things like currency and time formats, you can customize the menu bar display, set shortcuts, enable or disable sound alerts, and schedule automated backups.

Speaking of the menu bar, the app can display the active task’s title and time, and the drop-down menu lets you start and stop timers, select different tasks, and add new ones.

If your needs are simple and you don’t need to track more than three tasks at once, the free version is probably enough, although you do miss out on data imports and automated backups. Thankfully, the app isn’t too expensive if you want to go Pro, and Tim is definitely worth the money.
