Tectonic is an intuitive tool to locate the latest seismic activities on our planet. The application offers a simple to navigate user interface where you can spot earthquakes from all over the world of all magnitudes.

The globe is fully interactive and supports commands such as pan and zoom. Moreover, it can be viewed in three different ways: political, geographical and satellite. Maps can also show volcanic activity and sun light.

Besides being able to interact with a full 3D globe and check tectonic activity on it, you can browse earthquakes from a compact panel by date, magnitude, name and distance. You don’t have to worry about the information being outdated, as it is automatically refreshed based on user-defined intervals.

Each location of an earthquake that happened recently can be previewed on Google Maps from the Event Information window. In this window, the affected area is highlighted with a red circle.

The magnitude of earthquakes is displayed in the Richter scale and their gravity is illustrated with different color nuances. The less severe earthquakes (< 3.4 Richter) are of green color. After the 4.2 threshold, it starts getting orange and after 6.5 it becomes red. The darker the color is, the more severe the impact was.

Tectonic offers quite a good number of customization options in its Preferences window. The general settings allow you to toggle the menu bar status, disable / allow animations, change the information update frequency or the earth appearance.

Moreover, you can toggle various details about the Earth’s appearance: sun light, atmosphere, main plate tectonics and more. From the Earthquakes settings, you are able to adjust the magnitude, period and quantity of the tectonic activities.
