Tracks that do not have complete metadata information can prove to be hard to identify, especially if you are the owner of a large music library. Tagger is a simple yet powerful Mac app that enables you to manually input tags for any track, while also offering you the possibility to search for details on the VGMdb website.
The Tagger main window is separated in two different areas: on the left you can browse your disk and find the files you want to add tags to, while on the right side you can attach general metadata details, or album artwork to the currently selected track.
The top window toolbar includes navigation buttons, helps you to enable the Quicklook plug-in, and allows you access the VGMdb search panel. Tagger offers you the possibility to search tracks metadata by album, artist, comment, or directory. Once you found the correct entry, press the select button and the app will transfer the data to the current track.
Within the Tagger metadata panel, you have the option to include details about the track name, artist, album, composers, publishing year, genre, and other comments. You can add an image file to represent the album artwork. If the app detects multiple tracks that match the album entry on VGMdb.net, it will also automatically add metadata content to the related tracks.
Via the app’s Tags menu, you have the option to quickly format the newly added metadata content by applying various rules: you can capitalise certain items or convert them to all upper / lower cases, you can replace the data included in certain fields, swap the first and last name, and so on.
Tagger enables you to easily import metadata information from the VGMdb website to your local audio tracks. The app enables you to manually edit the entries, offers you the possibility to assign album artwork, can apply specific formatting rules, and so on.
