Tad is an open-source tabular data viewer that provide multiple ways to organize and analyze information saved in several popular formats. It lets you use a hierarchical pivot table, filter, sort, aggregate, and format data, and combinations of these methods make it easy to pinpoint important pieces of information.

The application is available on macOS, Windows, and Linux, which makes it a great solution for cross-platform use. It supports CSV and Parquet files, along with SQLite and DuckDB databases, and it uses DuckDb to import and process data.

The end result is very vast loading and efficient data operations, even when working with very large files or databases.

Once you’ve loaded a file, the tabular data is listed on the right, and the left-hand sidebar provides your controls. You can select the columns you wish to see, add columns to a pivot table, and choose which columns should be used for sorting data.

Pivot tables are particularly useful, as they can turn simple tabular data into a hierarchical tree table, grouping rows that have the same values for the selected column. Pivot tables can be combined with sorting, aggregation, and formatting rules.

Finally, filters allow you to set up complex sets or rules in order to remove data that isn’t necessary in a particular scenario.

Tad is an excellent tool for processing tabular data. It allows you to efficiently filter large datasets and highlight relevant information, with the possibility to then export this filtered data to a CSV file. It is very easy to learn and work with, open-source, and free to use.
