Store simple text notes on your Mac and synchronize the data with your iOS device via Wi-Fi, with this easy-to-use OS X application. #Store note #Sync note #Write note #Note #Write #Sync
If you have a lot of information that you need to remember on a daily basis, having an efficient and easy-to-use note-taking app can be very helpful, especially if it allows you to sync your memos across multiple devices.
SyncBook is a straightforward application that does away with any functions some may find unnecessary, while letting you synchronize your notes with your iPhone or iPad via Wi-Fi.
Many people are not comfortable keeping their private information in cloud storage, and for good reason. While encryption methods are getting ever more complex, security breaches are always possible.
SyncBook solves this problem by synchronizing your notes via a local Wi-Fi connection, provided you have also installed the SyncBook iOS app on your mobile device.
Upon installation, SyncBook creates a folder on a local storage drive that is used to store your notes as TXT files. As long as they are already saved in this format, importing existing memos is as simple as copying them into the specified directory.
However, organizing your notes is rather cumbersome, as you need to apply tags in Finder to place entries in specific groups. Also, you cannot change item or category order, as this operation can only be performed in the iOS app.
It is also worth noting that the application does not offer a built-in search function, although you can use Finder for this purpose.
Lastly, it would be great if SyncBook could be sent to the menu bar, as it would make it possible to add new notes or open existing ones without keeping the app in your Dock at all times or browsing through the SyncBook folder.
Many applications designed to help us organize our activities end up taking up more time than they save, as they pack too many unnecessary functions for no reason.
SyncBook is refreshingly easy-to-use and also does away with cloud storage to keep your data safe. However, it definitely needs a proper search function and a way to organize your notes without resorting to the mobile app.
