Swiss File Knife is a collection of command-line tools that can be easily accessed via the Mac OS X Terminal even if you are running the script from a portable drive. The collection integrates file management capabilities, conversion and text processing functions, and much more.
Within the Swiss File Knife software archive, besides the binary that includes all the tools, you can also find four shell command files that can be used to launch the executable in the Terminal with minimal effort.
Simply open the contextual menu of the command files by pressing the right click on your mouse or by holding down the Control key while selecting the item with your mouse, and use the Open option included in the menu.
Note that depending on the shell command you choose, the Swiss File Knife will run in standard, dark, white, or colorless shell. The archive also includes a Read Me file that details the procedure.
Once you open the Swiss File Knife binary in the Terminal, you can run the “sfk” command to see the list of supported commands organized by purpose: file system, conversion, text processing, search and compare, networking, scripting, development, or diverse.
Moreover, you can type “sfk command name” in the shell to view extensive details about how to use each function such as the supported configuration options, the accepted parameters, and even see some usage examples.
To sum up, Swiss File Knife offers you the possibility to handle various tasks via the command line and provides extensive usage details and instructions for each of the supported functions. Moreover, the binary does not have to be installed on your Mac and can run from a portable USB.
What's new in Swiss File Knife 1.9.9.0:
- Improved scripting and network functions. detail improvements and bugfixes.
- CHG: SYNTAX CHANGE: option -keepchain is now active by default. this means a chain like sfk sel -today mydir +run ... +tell ... no longer stops at the 2nd command if no files are found. command +run just skips to +tell. use option -stoponempty for the old behaviour, or set SFK_CONFIG=stoponempty. the new default allows to use sfk sel -today mydir1 +sft server cput +then sel -today mydir2 +sft server cput without stopping inbetween because mydir1 has no recent files.
- add: sfk if ... begin ... +elseif ... +else ... +endif.
