As helpful as it is to have access to various applications from the menu bar, you can’t just place anything here, such as bookmarks, commands or snippets. However, if you use an app like Superbar, some of these limitations are lifted, giving you a lot more freedom when organizing the menu bar.

While it was not designed with novices in mind, Superbar can prove immensely useful in the right hands. Configuring it is somewhat tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing, but most users should get the hang of it.

The app essentially just adds a new icon to the menu bar, which you can click to access a drop-down menu. Here, items are organized into multiple categories, and you can open whatever you need with a single click.

Aside from the customizable item categories, Superbar also comes with a handy shortcut for toggling the macOS Dark Mode on or off.

A few example menu items are included, but you’re probably going to want to change them. To do so, just click Edit to open the YML file where all these commands are stored. Once you have made your modifications, just reload the file.

New bookmarks, snippets, shortcuts and other items need to be added manually, which is why this app might not be the best choice for inexperienced users.

There is a reason many developers add their apps to the menu bar – anything placed here is much easier to access, especially if your software needs to offer a bunch of options without taking up too much space.

Superbar is a good choice for users who want to add personalized shortcuts to other apps, commands, bookmarks, snippets, etc. to the menu bar. It is highly customizable, though it is best suited for experienced users.
