Captures screenshots of your desktop at regular intervals and allows you to go back and check what you were doing at any given time. #Screen Capture #Record Screen #Archive Desktop #Screen #Capture #Desktop
Our memory is limited and very much fallible, as proven by the unreliability of court witness testimonies. The only way to be sure of what you were doing or what you saw at any given moment is to record it.
ScreenMemory is designed to serve as a visual archive of what’s taking place on your Mac’s desktop. It captures screenshots at a regular interval and allows you to go through these recordings later, making it easy to remember something you’d seen, how long you’d been working on something, and more.
Once you’ve given the app permission to record your screen, it’s pretty much ready to go. By default, it will capture screenshots every minute, but you can set this interval to anywhere between one second and one hour.
There are a few other settings you can change, particularly if you have the paid edition, but the initial configuration is incredibly straightforward. However, if you want to hold on to screen captures for longer than seven days, you might want to tweak the default storage settings.
Speaking of settings, I had some trouble finding the section at first, as the icon made it look like a help button instead. Likely a bug, since the correct symbol appears in the developer’s screenshots.
With the playback tool, you can navigate between days and frames, with each frame having an associated timestamp. The easiest way to navigate is to click through these captures directly on the timeline.
Aside from supporting more than just one day and one screen, the most noteworthy Pro feature is the ability to search for text in screenshots with the use of OCR. This can make finding something specific much easier, and it should work best with high-resolution captures.
While the free version will be enough for some, it is quite limited. A full license isn’t all that cheap, but at least it’s a one-time purchase, and the additional features planned for future releases will make the price even more reasonable. Among upcoming features are the ability to blacklist certain apps and snooze screen capture, along with an improved timeline.
ScreenMemory is easy to recommend thanks to its accessible and unobtrusive design. A few more features will make it an even more appealing prospect, and it has lots of potential use cases when your own recollection just isn’t enough.
