Advanced window management tool that allows you to snap windows to screen edges, move, and resize them using simple gestures and hotkeys. #Window Snapping #Snap Window #Window Manager #Snap #Window #Resize
Rectangle has quickly become a near-indispensable tool for Mac users, allowing them to quickly snap windows to screen edges with simple gestures or hotkeys, in addition to other window management options.
Rectangle Pro takes things a step further by making it possible to move and resize windows with cursor movements, snap background apps, hide windows on the edge of the screen, create shortcuts for any window size and position, save application layouts, and sync settings via iCloud.
While holding down ⌃⌘, you can place your cursor over any open window and move it in a certain direction to quickly snap it to a part of the screen. An indicator will be displayed when holding down the modifiers to show you which window has been selected. You can cancel the gesture by moving the cursor back to the indicator's location.
Quick Throw makes things even faster, albeit probably less accurate. While holding down ⌥, cursor movements across a window will snap it to one of the edges of your screen. No preview is displayed, so it might take some practice to get this method right.
Screen space is often at a premium, and no amount of window management can increase the size of your desktop. One solution is to temporarily hide certain windows without actually minimizing them. These can all be revealed or cycled with a hotkey, making this a useful feature for workflows that require a set of apps to be used for specific tasks.
However, this feature does have some caveats. You cannot stash windows on the border between two display, stashing down or where the Dock is will leave a bit of the window visible, and stashing up only works with apps that ignore the menu bar.
Rectangle Pro allows you to use quick shortcuts to move a specific window to a certain position and resize it. When creating a new shortcut, the coordinates and dimensions of active windows will be entered automatically. You can assign any key combination you want to each of these shortcuts.
Similarly, you can set up entire app layouts that are then activated with a hotkey. These can be configured manually, but the app can also just save the position and dimensions of active windows automatically.
Rectangle Pro does bring quite a bit more to the table when compared to its free counterpart. In addition to the above-mentioned features, you can also sync your configurations via iCloud, which is a must if you use multiple Macs. A license can be active on up to 3 devices at a time, and it is quite affordable, available for a single one-time purchase.
