Recordit is a lightweight macOS app designed to help you create quick screen-casts that can be saved or shared via Twitter as GIF files.
Moreover, Recordit is very easy-to-use and can be accessed from your menu bar whenever you wish to capture and share content.
Whenever you want to perform a recording, you need only access the application’s status bar icon and select the area of your screen that needs to be captured. Then, you can refine your selection before finally pressing the record button.
While the process is certainly not complex, it would help if there was a quicker way to get through the necessary steps. For example, the Recordit app could include an option to begin recording as soon as the capture area is selected, as well as a keyboard hot-key to trigger this function.
Your recordings are saved as GIF files, and you can customize their frame rate, so as to find the right balance between file size and animation fluidity.
Once a screen-cast has been created, the app generates a URL that can be accessed if you want to share the GIF file with others or save it on your Mac. You also have the option of posting it on Twitter immediately.
Sadly, it is not possible to save the files directly to local storage without first opening them in a web browser.
It is worth noting that the GIF files created by Recordit are automatically uploaded online, so you should take that into consideration if you are not comfortable with having the content stored on the Internet.
In conclusion, Recordit is a straightforward app that can be very helpful for users who need to capture and share screen-casts with very little effort. It is fairly intuitive for the most part, but saving the generated GIFs on your Mac is unnecessarily complicated.
