AVRecorder (formerly ReGen - Ace Video Recorder) is a small macOS utility that can deliver the same capabilities while providing a couple of customization options. The app employs the MOV format for the output and places the videos directly on the desktop.

The AVRecorder user interface is represented by a single window where you get to adjust the size of the captured area (width and height). Note that AVRecorder can grab the full-screen image, or you can input custom values for the parameters.
