Prey Panel is a desktop client for the Prey web application that offers you the possibility to monitor your device’s location and handle them in the case of theft or if you just lost them.
The Prey Panel utility can be employed to locate stolen Macs or iOS devices, to trigger audio alerts, to send text messages, or to completely lock the device.
Right off the bat, Prey Panel prompts you for the credentials of your Prey account. Note that the app is primarily a desktop client for the web platform, so you can access the service’s capabilities without cluttering your web browser.
You can register for a Prey account free of charge, but keep in mind that your access to certain functions will be limited. Of course, you can easily switch to one of the paid subscription plans to be able to connect more devices or get more reports.
At the same time, you will have to install the Prey app on all the devices you want to monitor and make sure that you log in to the service using the same account. Prey comes with companion clients for Mac and iOS, but also for Windows, Linux, Android, and Ubuntu/Debian.
Within the Prey Panel main window you can see the list of devices associated with the account, visualize their location on a map, or perform one of the supported actions: sound alarm, send message, or lock device.
If you set the device as being missing, Prey Panel will generate reports as long as the device is working and connected to the internet. The reports will include details designed to help you recover the device regardless if its lost or stolen.
Prey Panel offers you the possibility to set zones and can display alerts whenever one of the monitored devices are entering the area. The app can also automatically send email alerts when a device is added, marked as missing, recovered, reenabled, and more.
To conclude, Prey Panel offers you the possibility to connect to your Prey account and deal with your devices outside the browser.
You have the option to see the device’s location, perform predefined actions, or generate missing device reports that can be shared with others to try to get your device back.
