Simple, configurable Pomodoro timer that helps you stay focused and organized by splitting your time into work and rest periods of predefined lengths. #Pomodoro Timer #Pomodoro Technique #Pomodoro App #Pomodoro #Timer #Focus
While the Pomodoro Technique hasn’t been popular for that long, the sheer number of Pomodoro apps out there may make you think otherwise. That’s not a bad thing, though, as having lots of options only makes it more likely to find one that’s perfect for you.
Pomotroid doesn’t stand out from the pack too much, as it looks and functions like most other Pomodoro apps. However, its smart, straightforward design, as well as the visually pleasing UI, make it a better option that most other similar tools.
Pomodoro means “tomato” in Italian, which tells you precisely nothing about the technique, other than the fact that it’s named after a tomato-shaped kitchen timer. The idea is that it will help you stay focused and productive by pushing you to complete whatever task you’re working on in the time you have available.
Each interval, known as a Pomodoro, normally consists of 25 minutes, and you can take a short break after completing each one. After completing four, you are allowed to take a longer break.
You need exactly five seconds to understand how Pomotroid works, assuming you’re familiar with the technique. The timer is displayed in the small app window, you can start or pause it easily, and the number of intervals that been completed is also listed.
The UI itself is nothing too fancy, but it looks great and does the job. The only downside is that the timer cannot be controlled from the menu bar.
While sticking to the default interval lengths isn’t a bad idea, you can change them freely. Even the number of rounds to be completed before taking a long break can be modified.
Sound notifications are enabled by default, but you can turn them off if you find them to be annoying or distracting. Alternatively, you can just lower their volume.
Pomotroid is very similar to most other Pomodoro apps, but its pleasing and intuitive visual design make it a better choice than most of the ones we’ve come across. It isn’t perfect, but you have nothing to lose by trying it out.
