Synchronize the clipboard across all your devices with the help of this small application that relies on the Dropbox online cloud storage service. #Clipboard synchonization #Sync clipboard #Clipboard syncer #Clipboard #Pasteboard #Sync
OmniCopy proposes a simple solution for keeping the clipboard from all your devices in sync. The app links to your Dropbox account and automatically sends the clipboard content across all connected devices.
The project comes with desktop clients for all major desktop platforms, such as macOS, Windows, and Linux, while also providing companion apps for iOS and Android.
Once you have installed the OmniCopy application on your Mac, the first thing you need to do is link it to a Dropbox account: the app will launch a page in your default web browser, and you just need to provide the credentials and authorize OmniCopy to control the account.
The OmniCopy icon will be placed in the status bar, and to see the latest clipboard entries just expand the associated menu. To examine the complete text string hover your mouse on top of the entry, or you can copy it back to the pasteboard with a simple mouse click.
Via the OmniCopy Config menu, you get to link or unlink Dropbox accounts or enable the autostart function. You also get the option to delete the current list and start all over again.
OmniCopy only works with text (UTF-8) and relies on the Dropbox API as far as security and encryption go.
Keep in mind that OmniCopy does not feature any clipboard management enhancements: you don’t get to pause the syncing, you don’t decide how many entries should be kept, and you cannot access the clipboard history via hotkeys, and so on.
OmniCopy brings a very interesting concept to the table: instead on relying on different apps to sync information between your devices, the app proposes a system that has clients for all major desktop and mobile platforms and relies on a cloud sharing service to which you can enroll free of charge.
The drawback is that OmniCopy deals only with text, so you still need third party solutions to share images of files between devices, even if their size is quite reduced.
