Designed to bring a little order in your life, Notes+ is a small and elegant OS X app that helps you better organize yourself by enabling you to write notes and to always have them within arm’s reach.
Because there’s no better place in OS X for an application to live, so that it will always be within your arm’s reach, after the installation, Notes+ will seamlessly integrate itself into OS X’s status bar menu, from where it can be summoned with a simple click on its item.
From here onwards, things are as straightforward as possible, as the application features a minimalist and compact interface that makes note taking seem like a walk in the park.
You can switch between two menus, namely notes and favorites, you can access the app’s settings and add a new note with the help of the two buttons on the upper right side, as well as search for any note using the bottom search field.
As expected, you can configure the application to launch at system startup, and, probably even more useful, to make itself be seen when pressing a hotkey combination.
Unfortunately, during our trials on multiple Macs, running both OS X 10.10 and 10.9, the Notes+ application has shown some reluctance to add a new note, or to mark any note as favorite for that matter.
This problem can be easily by-passed by closing and opening the main window with two clicks on its menu bar item. While these bugs can prove to be quite annoying, this is far from being a deal-breaker, the application remaining usable.
Also, it would have been nice if the app came with a built-in export function that would enable you to back-up your notes and also a quick share feature that will enable you to e-mail your note database to your friends or colleagues.
We can only hope that in the near future, the development team will address these small hick-ups to make Notes+ an even better app.
Taking all things into consideration, Notes+ is not what you would call full featured, but instead its focus is on simplicity and on making the best out of an interface that enables it to be both useful and unobtrusive at the same time.
