A diary app may not be at the top of your priority list, but they can be surprisingly helpful. Even if you don’t plan on recording your thoughts on a daily basis, it can be a good place to store important information that you need to remember.

Myary is a capable app that lets you create multiple notebooks and store daily diary entries, complete with attached files and notes. It supports multiple markup languages and stores text in simple text files.

You start by creating your first diary, which can be stored anywhere you like. Entries are saved as individual text files, which can be opened with any text editor, while attached files are stored in their original formats.

If you create additional diaries, you can switch between them very easily from the main window. The app even allows you to transfer entries from one to the other with a couple of clicks.

After selecting a day in the calendar, you can start writing in the main text field, using a wide range of markup languages, such as Markdown, Textile, BBCode, Smark, and HTML. A preview function is included.

Aside from the standard language-specific formatting tools, you can change the font, font size, alignment, color, spacing, and more. However, most of these are only accessible from the app’s preferences.

Any type of file can be linked to an entry as an attachment. They are visible in the right-hand sidebar, and you can also preview them if supported by the file type. These items are stored together with your diary and can be accessed without the app.

Notes aren’t linked to a specific entry; they are always visible, and you quickly add them to the current entry with drag and drop, which makes them useful for storing frequently-typed text.

Myary does a lot of things right, and it offers more than enough features to be suitable for a wide range of use cases. It might look a bit outdated, but it works as well as expected.
