Alternative or additional Dock that can be moved anywhere on your desktop and customized in a number of ways, providing a new way to launch your apps. #Dock Replacer #Dock Alternative #App Launcher #Dock #Launcher #Shortcut
One Dock is great, but who’s to say you can’t have a second one? Or if you’re not a fan of the original, you might want to replace it with a more versatile alternative.
MyDock lets you do both of these things. It can serve as a secondary Dock, which can be placed anywhere you like, or replace the macOS Dock altogether. Its primary advantage is the fact that it can be moved freely across your desktop.
Doing away with the limitations imposed on Apple’s Dock, MyDock can be moved anywhere, even in the middle of your screen, if that’s what you prefer. This makes it useful for specific workflows where having the Dock on the edge of your screen isn’t preferable.
To add or remove apps from the Dock, access the preferences from the new icon added to the menu bar. You can add apps by browsing to their location or just dropping them in the list.
You can choose from three icon sizes, horizontal and vertical orientation is possible, and the opacity can be set from 0 to 100%. Unfortunately, dimensions cannot be tweaked as finely as with the standard Dock.
Other features available in the native tool also aren’t included, such as magnification, an open app indicator, the ability to show minimized windows separately, and the auto-hide feature.
I don’t think MyDock can fully replace Apple’s Dock, as it doesn’t offer quite enough functionality. The right/bottom side of the interface also seems to lack a margin, which looks a bit unsightly.
Thankfully, you have the option to keep both MyDock and the native Dock active at the same time, in which case this app works quite nicely as a launcher and app switcher.
