Nowadays, computer mice are the standard pointing device for most users, and they designed to help you move a pointer on your Mac's screen and click on buttons and menus.

Historically, these devices have been built using a lot of different technologies, from entirely mechanical mice using a ball for tracking, to the more modern laser-based ones.

Mouse Acuity is an easy to use macOS application which provides support for any mouse compatible with your Mac and created with a single purpose in mind: to help you test your mouse to see if its precision has decreased in time.

Mouse Acuity can also be used to compare your mouse's performance when changing between two different settings, as well as to make a comparison between two mouse models to decide which one is more accurate.

Once launched, the Mouse Acuity app will provide you with detailed and simple to follow directions on how to test your mouse with its help.

The mouse test is designed like a standard dexterity game and can be started by clicking on the "Start" button. When it begins, you will be asked you to drag a ball to a hole eight times, first from the middle to the corners of the window, and then from the corners to the middle, with as much accuracy as you can.

Upon finishing the mouse test, the Mouse Acuity utility will automatically calculate and display a score for each test (using an unknown formula), as well as selection and drag statistics.

This experiment will hopefully allow you to decide which settings profile is the best one for your mouse, or what mouse is more precise if you've tested two devices.

On the whole, although not a professional mouse benchmark, Mouse Acuity still manages to provide interesting and useful information regarding one's mouse accuracy.

One may think that this depends on the user's precision and speed, but considering that the same user performs both tests, Mouse Acuity's test results are still a good enough basis for comparison for different settings profiles and mouse models.
