Being able to set custom volume adjustments for each application can prove to be very useful: you can avoid getting loud notifications while listening to music at a sound level of your choice.

Master Volume Changer is a minimalist status bar menu application that automatically detects all installed apps and delivers access to separate controllers.

Upon launch, Master Volume Changer will scan the content of your Applications folder and add all the entries to its status bar panel. However, the app displays in its menu only four different apps at the same time.

To help you get to a specific utility, Master Volume Changer provides a simple search tool: just start typing, and the apps list will be updated in real time.

Note that the Master Volume Changer user interface also sports a Settings menu that enables you to reset all custom configurations, choose to ignore them if iTunes is playing, or make sure that only the menu bar panel is active (this can help you save up Dock space).

Within the Master Volume Changer panel, if you click with your mouse on top of the app icon, you get to see the volume adjusting bar associated with the utility. By default, the custom controllers are disabled.

To help you identify the utilities that have a custom volume adjustment, Master Volume Changer will use different color tags: red if the controller is disabled, and blue if you have set a custom volume level.

Naturally, Master Volume Changer is able to save your custom configurations between sessions and can be added to the list of login items. As a result, after the initial setup, there is no need for additional user interaction.

Worth mentioning is that, during our tests, we have noticed that the custom volume level is preserved only as long as the respective app is active: if you leave it running in the background, the system’s volume level will take over.
