Clipboard managers are far from rare, but many of them seem to forget the main advantage of the system clipboard—how convenient and intuitive it is. If it adds a bunch of complicated features, any third-party app may end up being counter-productive.

Maccy seeks to offer something as close as possible to the macOS clipboard, with one major enhancement—a history of your copied text will be available, should you ever need to use something that was sent to the clipboard and then replaced by something else.

That's really all the app does, and it works very well. Once you've copied some text, it will be stored in a list which can be accessed in several ways. You can either click the app's menu bar icon or use a convenient shortcut (⌘⇧C) to bring it up at the mouse cursor's position.

There is no limit to how many clippings can be stored, and old ones are not removed automatically. This can be an issue, as the list will grow annoyingly long if it is not cleared manually. It would be great if users had the option of limiting the number of clippings to be remembered.

Once the list has been accessed, you can either scan it for a particular item or use the included search function to filter the entries. Just start typing and anything that isn't relevant will be hidden.

The first ten items can be copied with a simple hotkey (⌘1-10); as for the rest—just select them and press Enter. Alternatively, you can hold down ⌥ while pressing Enter to paste the item directly.

Maccy is an excellent choice for users who want a simple clipboard manager that remembers text you have copied previously. It isn't bloated with unnecessary features, and it is free and open-source.
