Simple menu bar clipboard manager that supports multiple types of content, can be accessed via a hotkey, and allows you to quickly retrieve items. #Clipboard Manager #Clipboard Extender #Clipboard Storage #Clipboard #Multi-Clipboard #Paste
There are plenty of clipboard managers out there to choose from, seemingly enough to cater to any possible use case. More options never hurt, though, especially when they’re free and open-source.
Macboard is one of the simplest such apps you’ll come across, but it still packs more than enough features to serve as a complete clipboard manager. It’s also open-source and is available free of charge.
To bring up the clipboard manager window, you can either click the app’s menu bar icon or use the ⇧⌘V global hotkey. This shortcut isn’t customizable, but maybe that will change in a future release.
Once open, you can click an item to preview it, use the search function to find something specific, or just clear all clipboard content. Pressing ⌘ and one of the 1-9 keys will quickly copy the respective item to the clipboard. However, since the list is not numbered, it may be difficult to figure out which is which.
As you’d expect from any modern clipboard manager, it can save both text and images saved to the clipboard. Both can be previewed if you click any item in the list, and the app also provides information about their format and source.
As for links, Macboard attempts to grab metadata and display a preview of the page’s content, though this doesn’t always work as expected.
There are no settings to customize or other features to mention. This wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing, as a minimalistic design is often preferable, but I feel a few additions would be needed. For instance, a way to sort and categorize clipboard items would help, along with the ability to use the app entirely with the keyboard and customize hotkeys.
