Use your webcam to monitor your posture and get notified when you need to adjust your sitting position, with optional break reminders. #Monitor Posture #Correct Posture #Adjust Posture #Posture #Break #Health
Sitting for prolonged periods isn’t great for your health in the first place, and it only gets worse if you have bad posture. But unless you have someone watching you at all times, it’s easy to forget to sit correctly when you’re concentrating on other things.
MacPosture works kind of like a friend that’s always paying attention and can let you know when you need to adjust your posture. It does so by analyzing your sitting position via your webcam, then providing a score that is accessible via the menu bar. It can also work as a break reminder.
Whenever you see posture being mentioned on the web, you make an effort to sit up straight for a few minutes, but then just as quickly forget all about it. MacPosture serves as a helpful reminder, and it’s always there in the menu bar so that it’s easy to notice.
The app grades your posture, and it even gives you suggestions when necessary, such as to move further away from the screen. The color of the menu bar icon changes based on the score, going from green to dark orange.
If, for some reason, you haven’t noticed the icon turning orange, the app can also send notifications when your posture needs to be improved.
If you have the Premium version, statistics are recorded for the past week, allowing you to see how your posture has changed over this period, and making it possible to highlight trends.
Break reminders are also a Premium feature, and not really an essential one. If you enable it, you will receive break reminders at a specified interval, and you can customize the break duration as well. The advantage of using this app for break management is that it automatically detects when you’re actually sitting at your desk, so it will only send notifications when necessary.
Overall, MacPosture seems to do a pretty good job. It’s not perfect, as it can only monitor what the camera captures, and good posture is about more than just the position of your head. Nevertheless, it can be helpful if you have a tendency to slouch and get too close to your screen.
