Create additional Docks for your apps, files or folders, and pin them to the edges of your screen or move them around freely, with this relatively simple application #Create Dock #Add Dock #Move Dock #Dock #Shortcut #Panel
One Dock is not always enough, and macOS doesn’t let you have more than one on the same desktop at the same time. Thankfully, you can get around this limitation with the help of various third-party solutions, such as MultiDock.
A fairly simple application that will share some of its features with the developer’s other project, ActiveDock, it is designed to help you organize apps, files and folders into multiple Dock-like panels.
While the panels created by MultiDock aren’t technically Docks, they offer similar functionality. They allow you to create shortcuts to your items, and the panels look almost exactly like the actual macOS Dock.
They can be moved around freely, when in floating mode, as well as pinned to one of the four sides of the screen. They are shown on top of other windows, with the exception of those that are in fullscreen mode, just like the regular Dock.
After adding a new panel, you need to populate it with some shortcuts. The easiest way is via drag and drop, which is also how you change their order later on.
Each of the panel has its own unique properties, which include the theme and item size. You can also name them if you like, and running applications can be displayed as well.
One small issue we came across is that it can be difficult to move the panels around without opening one of the shortcuts by accident. Also, you cannot lock them to prevent new items from being added inadvertently or the order of existing ones modified.
If you find that your Dock is too crowded, it certainly helps to have somewhere else to put your items. While the panels created by MultiDock aren’t quite the same as the macOS Dock, as they lack some of its functionality, they can be quite useful nonetheless.
